A new internet Hoax is going viral this month that have had many users of google’s Gmail email program in panic mode.

the hoax claims Google is going to sunset it’s popular email system in august of 2014, but do not fall for it.

Despite the fake email seemingly being an edited version of a notice from last year to notify users that the Gmail Basic HTML view was going away, the prank sent users into panic.

“This is insane. Hate this company,” one wrote in response to the fake notice.

Responding to the hoax, Google simply wrote: “Gmail is here to stay.

this hoax is on the heels of recent news that Elon Musk announced a new email service called “Xmail”.

Google has started sunsetting Gmail’s basic HTML view, which allows users to look at their emails in a bare-bones state, starting January 2024.

The company updated its support page to reflect that Gmail will automatically switch to the Standard view after the deadline date. Users on Hacker News posted that they got an email from Google signaling the end of the feature.

“We’re writing to let you know that the Gmail Basic HTML view for desktop web and mobile web will be disabled starting early January 2024. The Gmail Basic HTML views are previous versions of Gmail that were replaced by their modern successors 10+ years ago and do not include full Gmail feature functionality,” the email reads.
